Position Overview:
East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) seeks a Lead Teacher to create and implement curriculum for 18-25 elementary age students daily during out of school time hours.
Hours:
- School Year: Monday – Thursday, 3:15 pm-6:15 pm and first and third Friday of the month, 4:30pm-6pm.
Responsibilities of the Lead Teacher will include, but are not limited to:
- Curriculum Development and Instruction
- Develop effective, standards-aligned lessons that support student learning and achievement of academic objectives
- Make initial assessments and monitor student achievements relative to needs-based targets and grade-level requirements
- Use appropriate, rigorous curricula and instructional materials to present students with new concepts through a variety of strategies that inspire and guide them to explore, express and uncover new ideas
- Collaborate with administrators, specialists and other colleagues in designing, reviewing, and executing lessons
- Student Achievement and Classroom Culture
- Set and hold students to extremely high academic and behavioral standards
- Create a positive classroom culture centered around investing students in their own academic achievement
- Develop curriculum based on data from student assessments and adjust curriculum based on student needs
- Report timely and accurate student data to EHTP management and parents (when appropriate)
- Monitor and ensure safety and compliance with behavioral guidelines for students
- Parent and Community Liaison
- Serve as liaison with parents/guardians; teachers and school staff
- Communicate regularly with students and parents – can include home visits, student and parent meetings, etc.
- Actively work to invest parents and families in their student’s academic success through regular communication
- Staff Management and Evaluation
- Model and exemplify East Harlem Tutorial Program’s core values (SCHOLAR: service, courage, humility, originality, leadership, achievement, reflection)
- Direct and evaluate Assistant Teacher, interns and volunteers to support classroom instruction and operations
- Help professionally develop and support fellow teaching staff
Skills and Experiences:
- Strong instructional skills and classroom management
- Experience administering and reporting student assessments
- Demonstrated ability to write and execute individualized and classroom lesson plans
- Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development
- Demonstrated ability to act as a team player and operate with a deep sense of personal responsibility
- Demonstrated commitment to students and their academic achievement
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Belief in the East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values
Educational Background and Work Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a lead teacher in a classroom setting with demonstrated student achievement results
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Education
- Those currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Education will also be considered
Compensation:
- $30-$40/hour, based on qualifications
- Lead Teachers are also eligible for additional twice-a-year performance-based bonus payments
