Deputy Director, Institutional Development

Position Reports to: Director, Development and Communications

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Deputy Director, Institutional Development (DDID) leads the institutional fundraising efforts for EHTP including its new school public charter school, East Harlem Scholars Academy. Working with the Director, Development and Communications, the DDID is responsible for determining goals for institutional development and creating a plan to meet them.  He or she will work closely with program staff to capitalize on emerging opportunities for institutional funding, oversee all institutional activity, and make the case for support. S/he will do this by working with various stakeholders including the Boards of Directors and program staff. The DDID will work closely with Senior Management on special projects needing institutional funding including the upcoming capital campaign.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write a foundation/corporation fundraising plan that includes strategies to support and renew current grants while expanding the institutional funding base.
  • Work closely with Director, Development and Communications to establish revenue goals and projections.
  • Develop and execute innovative cultivation and stewardship strategies necessary to meet foundation and corporation revenue goals, including classic and new media/virtual initiatives
  • Create and implement strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new foundation and corporate donors, including proposal and report writing
  • Recommend targeted institutional positioning strategies for EHTP and for major program areas that result in increased support from institutional funders and prospects
  • Author and manage key program-focused and organization-wide grant proposals, working with program staff to clarify project deliverables, timelines and budgets
  • Manage a systematic institutional funding calendar that includes an expanded slate of institutional funder opportunities
  • Supervise and/or execute all grants administration, including tracking grant financials and narrative and financial report preparation
  • Participate in the maintenance of strong donor database records for institutional donors
  • Coordinate with the Boards of Directors, Leadership Council, Junior Board and other stakeholders to ensure goals are met with full participation of volunteer leadership; as part of this, support the Fund Development Committee
  • Organize and conduct site visits and make presentations for donors and prospects
  • Contribute to the content and design of key publications, both in print and online, including brochures, case statements, and newsletters
  • Oversee the Development Associate in his/her proposal and report-writing responsibilities, providing training and guidance as appropriate.
  • Support special events and individual appeals as needed
  • Support government fundraising

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional writing (both creative and analytical) and editing skills, as well as excellent organizational and research skills
  • Strong  oral communication skills and the ability to communicate to diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Strong Planning and Project Management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of Raiser’s Edge 7
  • Passion for youth and community building
  • Detail-oriented, team-player with obsessive attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously, multi-task and meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong management and supervisory skills with the ability to coach and support program staff
  • Belief in the East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition, EHTP offers a comprehensive benefits package.
