On October 14, the EHTP community celebrated the opening of East Harlem Scholars Academy (Scholars Academy), our new public charter school. The event was held at the Jackie Robinson Complex (where the Scholars Academy is co-located) at 107th St. and Park Avenue. Dennis Walcott, Chancellor NYC DOE spoke at the event.
The day began at 7:45 with a breakfast and a tour of the school with Chancellor Walcott. Walcott visited all of the classrooms and talked with the students about their studies. The program featured remarks from Chancellor Walcott, EHTP Executive Director Jeffrey Ginsburg, Scholars Academy Founding Principal Cheyenne E. Batista São Roque, EHTP Board Chair Laurie Giddins, EHTP alumna Fatima Johnson and current Scholars Academy parent Natalie Gonzalez. The ceremony also included a musical performance by the students.
This August, EHTP proudly opened the doors to East Harlem Scholars Academy our K-8 public charter school. In the coming year, EHTP will also announce plans to build a 65,000 sq. ft. headquarters, an anchor of educational change and hope, at the corner of 105th Street and Second Avenue.
East Harlem Scholars Academy represents an expansion of EHTP’s vision and builds upon our track record of success. Having supported school day instruction for decades, we are committed to leveraging our experience, our community reputation, and our relationships, toward the establishment of a great school.
